Buy and Sell
by Anton Krijgsman — January 13th, 2007

Here we go again. Some more words of advice about who you should try to get and who you should try to rid yourself of. I did the same not too long ago; let’s see how the guys I recommended to you did.

Make or Break?

Rashard Lewis (Sell) – Make
At the time Rashard Lewis was healthy and a top-10 fantasy player. About a day after the article was posted he tore a tendon in his hand and is out a few months. At this point, he is actually more of a buy-low candidate.

Darko Milicic (Buy) – Break
His shot blocking has actually gone down since the last time I wrote the piece and his value has gotten to a point where I considered dropping him myself. Recently he has picked it up a little and I still believe he is a good buy-low.

Carlos Boozer (Sell) – To Be Determined
The main reason why I told you to move Boozer was that he was bound to get hurt at some point. Well he has continued playing like a mad man so if you still got him I continue to recommend dealing him.

Manu Ginobili (Buy) – Make
Gino has continued his stellar play. If you want to try to trade for the guy now you are too late, his owners will have noticed he is a stud this year for sure.

Marcus Camby (Sell) – To Be Determined
Similar to Boozer I expected Camby to go down. Well he did not break, but he did miss some games and unless he is crucial to your team I would move him.

Morris Peterson (Buy) – Break
I was pretty convinced and still am that Mopete will be traded and as result of that would see an increase in minutes. That has not happened yet.

The New Guys

So let’s go to the players I recommend moving in this article...

Joe JohnsonBuy

JJ has gone in a shooting slump or should I say he is just not taking his usual amount of shots at the moment. The first month of the season he took over 20 shots per game and got to the line close to 7 times a game. If you look at his last few, he only averaged 13 shots a game. That will return to normal soon enough though, this is just a cold streak. Joe Johnson owners however will remember this and the time he has missed not too long ago, so his value has gone down and you might be able to get a legit second rounder for a pretty nice price.

Emeka OkaforSell

Here is a guy who is having a career year that is for sure. He is healthy and he is kicking ass big time, rewarding owners who had the guts to draft him. Now is good time to deal him I would say. Career year, averaging close to three blocks a game and over ten boards a game. You might have noticed that his blocks have been going down lately and I don´t expect them to stay at three blocks a game myself. Also the Bobcats h2h playoff schedule is pretty bad.

Marcus CambyBuy

Yeah, yeah… I know, I’m also suggesting that you sell him. Well, if you have a team that has is not a frontrunner, but has an outside shot to win and you are willing to take some chances Camby is a guy that I’d still consider. He’s an incredible fantasy player when healthy, could give your team that much needed boost, and many are well aware of his injury concerns. If your team is going strong, I would go with a safer bet, though. You just can’t rely on Camby late in the year.

Rasheed WallaceBuy

I have benched Rasheed Wallace myself in the one (roto) league I have him in. His shooting woes have been downright awful lately. That is if he is shooting at all. In his last six games he only once reached ten points. However this is Rasheed Wallace and he can be amazing as well. The Pistons need Sheed and I do expect him to turn it around sooner rather than later. So if there was ever a time to get your hands at low cost on a Power Forward that shoots the three-ball well is capable of getting you a double double, adds good steals and blocks with low turnovers, now is the time.

Raymond FeltonSell

You have got to love what Felton has been doing recently. And he was amazing the second half last year as well. I spent a fourth round pick on the guy myself and was pretty worried the first part of the season about his production, but he has been making up for his slow start. There is a ‘but’ though; he is playing point guard right now because Brevin Knight is injured.

Felton is way better – fantasy wise - as a point guard than he is as a shooting guard, so if you own Felton you must be wishing that Brevin Knight will be out all season. That is not happening though… Brevin is scheduled back late-January to mid-February. And that is exactly why the upcoming period is a good time to deal Felton. Feel free to let him rack up some high assists games and then try to get someone solid for him. I would shoot high and try and get Mike Bibby who has been stellar as well lately.

Anthony ParkerBuy

Anthony Parker has been getting used to the play in the NBA and that is reflected in the box scores. Parker was an amazing shooter in Europe shooting well above fifty percent from the floor. Right now he is going through a similar process like Andres Nocioni went through when he entered the NBA, he is just adjusting a bit faster to the league than Nocioni did. When Nocioni entered the league his percentages for the first couple of months where just dreadful and after drafting this guy in several leagues I dropped him real fast after the numbers he put up. In his second year in the NBA Nocioni however proved he was for real. The same applies to Anthony Parker. He just needed a little time.

Parker is for real and can fill stats across the board. Think Gino-light for this season. Excellent shooter, has 3pt range, and carries a line of 14 points, 4 boards, 3 assists, 1+ steal and few turnovers.

Tyson ChandlerSell

The guys that I put in the sell category have a couple of things in common. First off, their playoff schedules are rather lousy. Second off, they kill either one or two of your percentage categories. With Chandler, it is just one… he is a pretty bad free throw shooter and that is being kind. Shaq is better from the line, heck my 2-year-old nephew is better then him. Well maybe I am exaggerating just a bit, but at least I am getting my point across. Other than that, Chandler is one heck of a rebounder and a good shotblocker. He doesn’t give you enough in the other columns to have much fantasy upside, though.

Since there are always teams that are in need of a center who fills the rebound and block columns, deal him now and get yourself a guy who’s h2h playoff schedule is better, and has more upside.
